If we had to define executives in one word, that word would be “visionaries.” Executives are people who have an uncanny ability to grasp and understand long-term goals and broad ideas... and to communicate them to others. They are dreamers whose creative and analytical attributes come together to hold an idea and see it through to realization. They are also the people who recruit others to support that vision.
But what exactly makes for a great executive? After all, many people can latch onto the “big picture” but don’t possess other qualities that are necessary for leading an entire organization toward success.
One tool, the DISC Behavior Model, offers tremendous insight into the behavioral styles of applicants. Through some unique insights, you can define the characteristics needed for your position and thus be able to hire the executive that’s a perfect fit for your corporation.
DISC stands for Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance. Each one of these four styles possesses observable behavioral traits that can contribute to or diminish job performance.
Let’s define a few characteristics necessary for executives to be truly successful. The first traits that usually come to mind are:
·Inspiring ·Optimistic ·Enthusiastic ·Persuasive ·Team-oriented ·Verbal
These traits come from having a strong core behavioral style of - continued below ...

Influence. However, there is more to an executive than Influence brings to the table. They must also possess the traits of:
·Aggressive ·Pioneering ·Goal-oriented ·Enterprising ·Problem-solver
These traits are ones that come when a person has a high ratio of Dominance in their style. Because executives need to love new challenges… because they need to face new projects and ideas with little or no fear, they must be aggressive and pioneering.
When you combine the qualities of Influence and Dominance, you find yourself with a personality style that lends itself to job requirements such as:
-Energetic and self-starter.
-Able to grasp new ideas and concepts quickly.
-Able to work under fast paced conditions.
-Track record of meeting deadlines and goals.
-Proven management, leadership, and analytical skills.
When you interview others for an executive position, be sure to look for those who demonstrate high Influence tendencies along with Dominance attributes. These will be the executives most likely to create a perfect fit with your firm.
